No. 1 Gators Hand South Carolina 4-0 Loss in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE, FLA. — The 23rd-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team lost a 4-0 decision in Gainesville, Fla., on Saturday to No. 1 Florida at Ring Tennis Complex. South Carolina fell to 9-4 on the season and 1-2 in the SEC with the loss while Florida remained unbeaten in the league with a 3-0 record and improved to 12-0 overall.

The Gators took the doubles points with victories on courts two and three, but the Gamecocks took the point in the top stop. The duo of Paige Cline and Hadley Berg (27) took down their first ranked opponent of SEC play, defeating No. 15 Brooke Austin and Kourtney Keegan. At the bottom of the lineup, No. 36 Josie Kuhlman and Belinda Woolcock defeated Brigit Folland and Rachel Rohrabacher 6-4.

The doubles point came down to the No. 2 doubles. The doubles pairing of Caroline Dailey and Mia Horvit took No. 11 Anna Danilina to a tiebreak, but eventually fell 7-6(5) to give the Gators the lead heading into singles play.

UF added to its point total in singles with No. 22 Anna Danilina gave Silvia Chinellator her first SEC loss with a 6-4, 6-1 final on court three. Kourtney Keegan (32) posted her point next with a 6-2, 6-3 victory on court six. On court two, Ingrid Neel (14) provided the winning point with a 6-3, 6-4 win against Carolina Dailey.

Play was suspended on the remaining courts once the team outcome had been decided. On one, Horvit (58) won her first set against Woolcock (19) 6-4 and was trailing 3-2 in the second set when the match was clinched.
