ATHENS, Ga. — South Carolina women’s golf earned two match-play wins at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic Saturday, notching victories over Old Dominion and Troy at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The 10th-seeded Gamecocks defeated the No. 11 Monarchs 4-1 in the morning before moving past the 12th-seeded Trojans 3-2 in the afternoon session.

Carolina junior Ainhoa Olarra and sophomore Marion Veysseyre both tallied a pair of wins to pace the Gamecocks on day two of the three-day event. Olarra downed ODU’s Rachel Walker 5&4 in the morning after opening the match with birdies on four of her first seven holes, and the San Sebastian, Spain, native registered a 6&5 victory this afternoon against Becca Horner of Troy.

Veysseyre edged ODU’s Katerina Vlasinova 2&1 in her first match, and the sophomore tallied four birdies in the afternoon en route to a 7&5 win against Troy’s Bria Jansen.

Katelyn Dambaugh, who fell to ODU’s Charlotte De Corte 1-up in a shortened match, posted a 3&2 victory against Bianca Lohbauer of Troy behind 13 pars and a birdie on the par-5 18th this afternoon.

Ana Pelaez split her two matches for the Gamecocks, who were placed in the Black Bracket at the event following their 10th-place finish in Friday’s stroke-play portion of the tournament. Pelaez picked up a 2&1 win over ODU’s Sana Tufail this morning, while Gamecock senior Jia Xin Yang earned a 1-up win in her opening match. Yang fell 3-up to Troy’s Gabi Oubre in a match that was suspended.

In the Red Bracket, top-seeded Georgia and No. 2 seed Alabama advanced to Sunday’s championship match after earning a pair of victories on day two. The Bulldogs defeated Daytona State and Arkansas, while the Crimson Tide downed Southern Cal and Denver.

Round Changer

Marion Veysseyre caught fire midway through her afternoon match against Troy’s Brian Jansen, notching four birdies over a five-hole stretch. Her final birdie of the contest came on the par-3 third.
