Grant Summers Named SEC Male Freshman of the Week

COLUMBIA, S.C. – After only four weeks of collegiate competition, South Carolina freshman diver Grant Summers earned his first weekly award from the Southeastern Conference, named the league’s swimming and diving Male Freshman of the Week. Summers was chosen for the award after his best meet of the season at home against North Carolina.
Against the Tar Heels, Summers earned two personal bests and went undefeated in the two diving competitions. With a 310.88 on the 1-meter, the Atlanta, Ga., native beat his prior personal best by more than 25 points. He went on to break his previous 3-meter record by 19.83 points.
Summers has earned three first place finishes this season and hasn’t placed below fourth in his collegiate career.
The freshman is the first Gamecock to earn SEC Freshman of the Week honors and the second Gamecock to earn weekly honors after Julia Vincent was named SEC Female Diver of the Week in week three.
