Gamecocks Grab Spots in the CollegeSwimming Top 50

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina men’s swimming and diving team checked in at No. 17 in the CollegeSwimming Dual Meet and Championship Top 50 Poll. The women also earned a spot in the organization’s top 50 at No. 26.
The Gamecock men have 10 top-25 rankings in individual events. Three South Carolina swimmers, Akram Mahmoud, Fynn Minuth and Tomas Peribonio, hold top-25 rankings in two events. Mahmoud has South Carolina’s highest individual ranking in the 1000 freestyle, in which he is ranked eighth in the country. He is also ranked 18th in the 500 freestyle alongside Minuth, who is currently ranked 12th. Minuth also holds the No. 22 spot in the 200 butterfly. Peribonio holds top-25 rankings in both individual medleys – No. 13 in the 400 IM and No. 25 in the 200 IM.
Top-25 relay rankings also helped the men to their spot at No. 17. The Gamecocks are currently No. 17 in the 200 medley relay and No. 23 in the 400 medley relay.
In order to check in at No. 26, the Gamecock women earned one relay top-25 ranking and three individual top-25 rankings. Senior Julia Vincent holds the No. 6 spot in 3-meter diving and the No. 11 spot in 1-meter diving. Emma Barksdale also helped out the Gamecocks with her No. 22 ranking in the 200 IM. The women also earned the 22nd-best 400 medley relay time in the nation.
The Gamecocks will use their off-week to prepare for the Georgia Tech Invitational after four straight weeks of heavy competition. The invitational will take place in Atlanta, Ga., November 16-18.
