Swimming and Diving Travel to East Carolina

GREENVILLE, S.C. –
South Carolina swimming and diving travels to East Carolina for its first competition of 2018 this weekend. The Gamecocks will face off against the Pirates in Greenville, N.C., on Saturday at 1 p.m in the Minges Natatorium.
The Gamecocks return from the holiday break with the men ranked No. 25 and the women ranked No. 24 in the CSCAA Division I poll. The team finished off the fall season at the Georgia Tech Invitational where the men took fourth and the women took fifth. Over the break in competition, both teams traveled to Clermont, Fla., for a winter training trip at the USA National Training Center.
Six Gamecocks hold top-25 rankings in individual events, including Nils Wich-Glasen who has top-25 times in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Two South Carolina relay teams also earned top-25 times in the fall, with the men ranking 18th in the 800 freestyle relay and 25th in the 400 medley relay. Over the holiday break, Allyson Nied topped her No. 17 score with a 271.20 at the Auburn Diving Invitational.
South Carolina leads the series against East Carolina 16-3 with the men leading 10-2 and the women 6-1. The last matchup on January 30, 2016, saw the Gamecocks win both the men’s and women’s competitions. The men defeated the Pirates 193-105, the women 170-129.
