South Carolina junior Fynn Minuth took home his second gold of the 2018 Southeastern Conference Championships on Saturday with first place in the men’s 200 butterfly. Minuth pulled ahead in the last 25 yards to break his own school record and earn an NCAA A-cut time at 1:41.25. On the first day of the competition, he broke the SEC meet record to take gold in the men’s 500 freestyle.

The Gamecock women sit at seventh with 456 points going into the final day of the competition. The men are also at seventh with 551 points at the end of day four.

In the men’s 100 breaststroke, sophomore Itay Goldfaden and senior Nils Wich-Glasen took fourth and fifth, respectively. In the A-final, Goldfaden topped his career-best prelim to take fourth with a time of 52.44. Wich-Glasen, the current school record-holder in the event, finished fifth overall with his 53.03.

Freshman Lionel Khoo swam a personal-best in the 100 breaststroke prelims to earn a spot in the C-final, where he improved on his time with a 53.08 to take 17th overall.

Senior Kersten Dirrane went from second to first in the school record books with a 1:00.17 in the women’s 100 breaststroke prelims. She came back to beat her prelim time to take seventh in the A-final with the now-school-record time of 1:00.09.

Sophomore Albury Higgs also earned a spot in the 100 breaststroke finals, recording a 1:01.02 to qualify for the B-final. She finished fifth in her final and 13th overall with a time of 1:01.34.

Four Gamecocks recorded new personal bests in the women’s 200 butterfly prelims to qualify for the finals. Junior Marissa DelGado broke her own school record at 1:57.23 in prelims to earn a spot in the B-final alongside freshman Emma Otten. DelGado finished third in the B-final and 11th overall with time of 1:57.30. Otten took eighth in the B-final and 16th overall with a time of 1:59.41.

Senior Taylor Worrell and junior Katie Shannahan both swam personal-best times in the 200 butterfly prelims to qualify for the C-final. Worrell tied for 19th overall with a time of 1:58.70, and Shannahan finished 24th overall with a time of 2:01.16.

Sophomore Will Riggs and senior Akram Mahmoud both swam the fastest 200 butterfly of their careers in prelims to secure spots in the event B-final. Mahmoud finished 14th overall with a time of 1:44.9,1 and Riggs took 16th overall at 1:46.28.

Sophomore Emily Cornell broke her own school record in the women’s 100 backstroke with a 53.61 to earn a spot in the C-final. She came back to beat her prelim time by two tenths of a second and finish 18th overall with a final time of 53.50.

Sophomore Kevin Liu’s 47.81 personal best in the men’s 100 backstroke earned him a spot in the C-final. He finished 20th overall with a time of 47.90 in his final.

Freshman Grant Summers competed for the Gamecocks in the men’s platform preliminaries, finishing 22nd overall with a score of 250.65.

The Gamecocks finished day four of the SEC Championships in the men’s and women’s 400 medley relay. Both teams took seventh in their events, the women with a time of 3:35.05 and the men with a time of 3:10.42.

“Grant Summers did a great job on the platform today. We needed him to put some points on the board, and he came through. He drilled his front back and reverse 2 1/2, and that put him in scoring position. He will definitely be a threat on platform next year as he adds some harder dives to his list. Overall, he had a great meet for his freshman year and I’m really proud of his performance here.”

South Carolina swimming and diving competes in the final day of the 2018 SEC Championships on Sunday. Prelims for day four begin at 10 a.m. (CT) and include the men’s and women’s 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 1650 freestyle as well as women’s platform diving. Finals for all day four events begin at 6 p.m. (CT), followed by the men’s and women’s 400 freestyle relay, and will be broadcast live on the SEC Network.
