Higgs Wins 200 Breaststroke to Wrap Up GT Invite

ATLANTA — South Carolina swimming and diving wrapped up the final day of the Georgia Tech Invitational on Sunday with another solid performance. Senior Albury Higgs led the way for the Gamecocks, winning the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:10.96.
 
Eight Gamecocks made the A-finals on the day with sophomore Hallie Kinsey and junior diver Grant Summers each notching top-five finishes, in the 200 butterfly and platform diving respectively.
 
Overall, the Gamecock women placed sixth in the team standings, while the men came in eighth.
 
Gamecock Notables
– Seniors Emily Cornell and Kevin Liu each made the A-final of the 200 backstroke, finishing 10th and seventh, respectively.
– Senior Christina Lappin finished 10th in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.44, which hit the NCAA B-cut mark.
– Freshmen Taylor Steele and Jordan Yip Zhu Ern each turned in top-10 finishes with Steele placing ninth in the 200 breaststroke and Yip eighth in the 200 butterfly.
– Senior Lionel Khoo took 10th in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:59.79.
– In the 400 freestyle relay, the team of freshmen Janie Smith and Emma Alexander, Cornell and Lappin took fifth with a time of 3:19.82.
 
 
Up Next for the Gamecocks
The diving squad will be back in action Dec. 15-19 for the Auburn Invitational, while the full team will resume action Jan. 11 when the Gamecocks take on East Carolina on the road.
