Gamecocks Take Down Two School Records on First Night of Last Chance Meet

Athens, Ga. – South Carolina swimming took down two school records at the UGA Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. Nicholle Toh dropped the program record in the 100 fly while senior Patrick Groters broke his own record in the 200 IM.

In the women’s 100 fly, Toh placed seventh in the prelims with a 54.70, but came back in the finals to take first with a 52.26, setting the new school record. The previous record was set by Christina Lappin at the 2020 SEC Championships. Toh lowered the record by one one-hundredth of a second.

In the women’s 200 IM, graduate Victoria Kwan swam a 1:55.78 to take first in the prelims. Her time was good enough to earn an invitation to the NCAA Championships in March.

In the men’s 200 IM, Groters placed fifth in the prelims with a 1:45.33 before swimming a 1:43.22 in the finals for first place. Groters took down his own school record from the 2022 SEC Championships by .55 seconds.

In the women’s 200 back, junior Tatiana Salcutan placed first in both the preliminary and final heats by was not able to lower her personal best time – a 1:54.26 that she swam at last weeks SEC Championships.

South Carolina’s swimmers will continue competition at the Last Chance Invitational on Sunday.
