Results

The USC Women’s Swimming team defeated the University of Miami Hurricanes 142.5-119.5 in an exciting meet at the Carolina Natatorium.

The Gamecocks took first place in 8 of the 14 events. Leading the way was Heather Skaggs and Jennifer Van Assen with 3 top finishes a piece. Heather Skaggs had a personal best in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.88, and won the 100 fly (56.63) and the 50 yard free (23.64) with Ashleigh Bastak (52.27) and Carolyn McHugh (24.32) rounding out the top three positions in that event. In the 200 yard free, Van Assen (1:51.87), Haley Skaggs (1:54.31) and Bronwyn Dedekind (1:55.19) took top honors. The Gamecocks took the top three positions in the 100 yard free as well with Van Assen (51.85), Ashleigh Bastak (52.27), and Haley Skaggs (53.50). USC also took home first in both the 200 yard free relay and the 200 yard medley relay.

Coach Gibb was very pleased with the overall performance of the team. “I see a lot of positive aspects of the meet and we raced well. I am definitely looking forward to the meet with Alabama next week and getting prepared for the SEC Championships” stated Coach Gibb after the meet.

Both the men and women head back to the pool on Friday, January 30 to host conference rival Alabama.
