COLUMBIA, S.C.- – The Southeastern Conference named 341 student Athletes to the 2006-07 Winter Academic Honor roll Tuesday, with 32 Gamecocks making the roster. South Carolina honorees include 10 women’s basketball team members, five men’s swimming and diving team members and 17 women’s swimming and diving team members. Carolina beat out all other SEC schools in both the number of women’s basketball and women’s swimming and diving team members to be included on the list.
South Carolina was fifth overall in the 12-member conference for total honorees, behind Florida (54), Tennessee (41), Georgia (37), and Kentucky (36). South Carolina is third on the list when considering just the sports that the Gamecocks participate in. Seven schools have gymnastic programs, including Florida, Kentucky and Georgia while both Kentucky and Mississippi include rifle in their winter sports season. Vanderbilt is the lone SEC school to sport a bowling team.
