CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – South Carolina got a strong performance from its women’s divers on Saturday, but were otherwise held winless in a tri-meet with North Carolina and Virginia Tech at Koury Natatorium. The Tar Heels beat South Carolina 194-103 on the women’s side and 197-106 in the men’s competition, while the Hokies took down the Gamecock women 205.5-94.5 and the men 202-98.

The Gamecock men fell to 1-2 on the year while the women are 0-3.

South Carolina’s only wins on the day came in women’s 1- and 3-meter diving with junior transfer Courtney Forcucci taking the top spot in both events and junior Taryn Zack finishing as the runner-up on both boards.

Several Carolina swimmers turned in runner-up finishes on the day. Claire Thompson was second in the women’s 200 freestyle and helped the women’s 400 free relay team to a third-place finish.

On the men’s side, freshman Bobby Cave took a runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:02.45; he also finished third in the 100 breast. Fellow freshman Alex Fitton was second in the 100 butterfly in 50.12. Another freshman, Rylan Ridenour, finished second in men’s 3-meter diving with a score of 368.75.

The Gamecocks will have a week off before the annual showdown with archrival Clemson on Oct. 30.
