COLUMBIA, S.C. – Auston Bousfield’s two-out grand slam in the top of the sixth inning lifted 12th ranked Ole Miss to a 6-4 win over top-ranked South Carolina on Friday night at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks are now 16-1 and 0-1 in the SEC while the Rebels improve to 17-2, 1-0 in the league.

Due to the weather forecast on Sunday, the Gamecocks and Rebels have adjusted the weekend series schedule with the two teams to meet in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. The second game of the doubleheader will be 45 minutes at the conclusion of the first game. Both games will be nine innings. There will be no contest on Sunday. The stadium will be cleared in between the first and second game on Saturday. Fans with tickets for Saturday’s game will be admitted for the first game only. Fans with tickets for Sunday’s game will be admitted for the second game only. Fans with tickets for both games are asked to bring both ticket stubs to the stadium. Both games will be streamed live on ESPN3 and Gamecocksonline.com and can also be heard on the Gamecock Radio Network from IMG College including flagship station 107.5 FM, “The Game.”

Ole Miss Starter Chris Ellis worked 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits to earn the win. He is now 3-0 on the year. Jordan Montgomery suffers the loss and is now 3-1 on the season. Montgomery worked six innings, allowing six runs, all earned, on six hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Vince Fiori added 2.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out two batters.

Ole Miss took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. Bousfield swung at the first pitch he saw from Montgomery for a base hit. After a pair of groundouts advanced Bousfield to third, he then scored on Will Allen’s two-out RBI single up the middle.

Max Schrock quickly tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first as he crushed a ball over the right field wall for a home run, his third of the season.

South Carolina scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-1 lead over Ole Miss. With one out Tanner English doubled to left field and a single up the middle by Marcus Mooney put two runners on base for Schrock. For his third hit of the night, Schrock sent a 1-0 pitch up the middle, scoring English and giving the Gamecocks a 2-1 advantage. After a walk to Joey Pankake loaded the bases, the Gamecocks caught a break as Ole Miss second baseman Brantley Bell overthrew the shortstop. Mooney scored and the bases remained loaded for Connor Bright who made it 4-1 on a sacrifice fly to center field.

The Rebels responded in the top of the fifth with a solo home run off the bat of Austin Anderson, cutting South Carolina’s lead to two runs.

Ole Miss went ahead 6-4 in the top of the sixth. After Bell knocked a 1-0 pitch to the corner in left field for a double, Montgomery hit Sikes Orvis and walked pinch hitter Colby Bortles to set the stage for Bousfield. With the bases loaded, Bousfield knocked a 2-0 pitch into the stands in left field, driving in four runs and giving the Rebels the lead.

Schrock went 4-for-5 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Martin and Bright each accounted for a RBI while English added a pair of hits and scored a run.
