COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina used a dominant pitching performance to take its second win in the fall exhibition slate over Charlotte 1-0 on Friday night at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.

The sixth inning proved to be the difference maker for the Gamecock offense, as senior Olivia Lawrence doubled to get into scoring position, setting up redshirt sophomore Lauren Masters for the clutch RBI hit. That gave South Carolina the run to take the win. Freshman Tiara Duffy also doubled in the contest.

In the circle, sophomore Nickie Blue started and only allowed one hit, which also was the only ball to escape the infield. She also walked one while fanning one in her time. Freshman Hayley Copeland and redshirt senior Julie Sarratt split the final four shutout innings, with Sarratt getting the win by going the final two.

The Gamecocks continue their fall play on Friday night at the College of Charleston. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. EDT.
