Gamecocks Shine in Summer Meets

COLUMBIA, S.C. ââ’¬” Fynn Minuth and Allyson Nied both recorded successful days at their respective meets for South Carolina on Wednesday. Minuth took first place in the 400m freestyle at the Speedo Junior National Championships, while Nied placed 12th at the USA Diving ATT National Diving Championships.
Minuth, a rising sophomore, won the title for the 400m free with a time of 3:53.61. He also placed second in the 200m butterfly on Monday with a time of 2:00.43. Will Macmillan of the North Carolina Aquatic Club and future Stanford Cardinal won the 200m fly with a time of 1:59.76.
The Speedo Junior National Championships continue through the week, with Minuth competing in the 200m freestyle on Thursday and the 200m IM on Friday.
“Fynn is having an outstanding meet,” said head coach McGee Moody. “He has come so far in just one year with the Gamecocks. We are looking forward to watching his continued progress this season.”
Nied, also a rising sophomore, punched her ticket to the semifinals by finishing 12th in the platform with a score of 224.50. Nied’s best dive, Back 2 1/2 Somersault 1 1/2 Twist Pike, was scored a 57.60.
The quarterfinals and finals will take place on Sunday, Aug. 14. The top 12 finishers in the quarterfinals will advance to the finals.
