Carolina Sends Four to Riviera ITA All-American Championships

Oct. 3, 2016

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Gamecock women’s tennis team is prepped and ready to begin play at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. this week. Carolina players will be in action starting Tuesday, Oct. 4 with the first round of qualifying singles. The main draw for both singles and doubles is slated to begin Thursday, Oct. 6. Hadley Berg, Paige Cline, Caroline Dailey and Ingrid Gamarra Martins will represent the Gamecocks at the tournament.

Tuesday’s schedule will see Cline, Dailey and Martins compete in the opening round of qualifying singles. Each of their matches is slated to start at 1:45 p.m. ET. In order to qualify for the main draw, one must win three straight matches. Eight of the 64 competitors in the qualifying round will advance to the main draw. Cline enters the tournament coming off of a singles title at the UVA Invitational, while Martins impressed in her latest outing at the ITF 10k LTP Charleston. Dailey has not seen any action thus far due to a prior injury.

The Gamecocks already have a spot locked up in the main doubles draw thanks to the No. 7 ITA preseason ranking for Berg and Cline. The duo will get underway on Thursday. The time and opponent for their match will be determined after the conclusion of qualifying doubles on Wednesday. Berg and Cline’s most recent match saw them capture the doubles title at the UVA Invitational. Last season, the tandem made it to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Doubles Championships before falling to No. 1 seed North Carolina.
