BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. — South Carolina freshman golfer Ana Pelaez and sophomore Marion Veysseyre earned top-20 finishes at the 2017 Bryan National Collegiate, which wrapped up Sunday afternoon at the Bryan Park Golf Course. The No. 11 Gamecocks carded a final-round 299 (+11) to finish sixth with a 54-hole mark of 881 (+17).

Third-ranked Alabama claimed a 14-stroke victory after totaling an 851 (-13) for the tournament. No. 9 Georgia (865, +1) placed second, while 20th-ranked Baylor took home third-place honors with a three-round score of 867 (+3). Kristen Gillman of the Crimson Tide grabbed medalist honors after finishing at 8-under 208.

Gamecock senior Marianna Monaco, who competed as an individual this week, turned in the low round of the day for Carolina. She registered seven birdies en route to a 2-under 70 and finished in a tie for 44th at 11-over 227. Monaco notched a birdie on her first hole of the day, the par-4 18th, and added two more before making the turn. Her fourth birdie came on No. 11, and her final two of the day came in back-to-back fashion after she tallied one on Nos. 14 and 15.

Pelaez (217, +1) placed in a tie for 14th after shooting a 74 (+2) in the final round. She registered 13 pars on her day to go along with birdies on the par-3 fourth and par-3 12th.

Veysseyre also carded a 74 (+2) Sunday, totaling two birdies and 12 pars. The sophomore, who recorded her final birdie of the week on the par-4 first, earned 20th-place honors with a 54-hole score of 219 (+3).

Carolina junior Ainhoa Olarra finished just outside the top 20 in a tie for 21st. She sported a three-round mark of 220 (+4) following her 2-over 74 Sunday. Olarra battled back from three-straight bogeys to start her round, tallying birdies on Nos. 15, 17 and 1.

Jia Xin Yang, who made her fourth appearance in the Gamecock lineup this season, posted a third-round 79 (+7) to finish in a tie for 44th at 11-over 227. Sophomore Isidora Nilsson placed in a tie for 71st with a 54-hole total of 235 (+19). She boasted two birdies on her day, registering ones on Nos. 6 and 15.

Quoting Coach Kalen Anderson

“Not the day we wanted, but we fought hard. I’m very proud of the way Ainhoa, Ana and Marion battled all weekend. Jia Xin had a couple good rounds for us, and it was great to see Marianna have an under par round in the individual spot.”

Round Changer

Marianna Monaco’s birdie barrage Sunday resulted in a 2-under 70 for the senior. Her 10 birdies on the week ranked first among Gamecocks.

Notable

  • Senior Marianna Monaco’s final-round 70 (-2) Sunday marked her lowest round ever for the Gamecocks. The performance gave the Yonkers, N.Y., native her first round of par or better this season.
  • Carolina freshman Ana Pelaez has earned a top-20 finish in each of her last four tournaments dating back to the 2016 Landfall Tradition.
  • Marion Veysseyre has finished inside the top 20 in each of Carolina’s three spring tournaments. The sophomore didn’t record a top-20 showing throughout the fall.
  • The Gamecocks’ 3.07 par-3 scoring average at the Bryan National Collegiate stood as the second-best mark in the 18-team field.
