NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Led by under-par rounds from sophomores Anita Uwadia, Lois Kaye Go and Ana Pelaez, No. 13 South Carolina women’s golf climbed one spot to seventh place on day two of the Mason Rudolph Championship Saturday. The Gamecocks posted a second-round 284 (-4) at the Vanderbilt Legends Club to bring their 36-hole total to 573 (-3).

Uwadia broke par for the second-straight day after firing a 2-under 70. The Okoko, Nigeria, native carded a team-high five birdies on day two, four of which came on her front nine. She made the turn at 3-under 33 before recording two bogeys, six pars and a birdie on the par-4 13th over her final nine holes. Uwadia will head into Sunday’s final round in a tie for 17th at 3-under 141.

Go marked the other Gamecock to post a 2-under 70 in the second round. She continued her steady play in her first collegiate tournament for the Gamecocks, notching 14 pars to go with birdies on Nos. 1, 9 and 18. Go’s under-par performance moved her up into a tie for 26th with a two-round mark of 143 (-1).

Pelaez fired a 1-under 70 Saturday behind three front-nine birdies. Her first birdie came on the par-3 fifth, and she added ones on Nos. 7 and 9 before making the turn at 2-under 34. The Malaga, Spain, native, who sits in a tie for 37th at 1-over 145, closed her round with pars on eight of her final nine holes.

Gamecock junior Marion Veysseyre posted a 1-over 73 for the second-straight day in round two. The Lachapelle-Auzac, France, native recovered from four early bogeys and notched three birdies over her final 10 holes. Veysseyre currently sits in a tie for 44th with a 36-hole mark of 146 (+2).

South Carolina senior Ainhoa Olarra totaled a pair of birdies on her front nine before finishing at 4-over 76 on day two. Her performance Saturday put her in a tie for 53rd at 4-over 148.

No. 8 Arkansas (550, -26) remained atop the leaderboard following its second-round 277 (-11), while fourth-ranked Arizona State (553, -23) and third-ranked Alabama (556, -20) round out the top three spots through 36 holes. Vanderbilt’s Abbey Carlson holds the individual two-round lead with a total of 135 (-9).

ROUND CHANGER Anita Uwadia

A strong start to her day propelled Anita Uwadia to her second-straight round of under par. The sophomore tallied four front-nine birdies, notching ones on Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 7.

NOTABLE

Anita Uwadia’s 70 (-2) marked her second round of under par this season. She totaled four under-par rounds all of last season.
Uwadia ranks third in the field this week with a 2.75 par-3 scoring average at the Mason Rudolph Championship.
Gamecock sophomore Lois Kaye Go’s performance Saturday was her first career under-par round for South Carolina.
South Carolina’s 125 pars are the fourth-best total in the 15-team field through two rounds.
