No. 9 Women’s Golf at Landfall Tradition

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Senior Ainhoa Olarra continued to lead South Carolina women’s golf at the Landfall Tradition after carding a 2-under 70 in round two of the 54-hole event Saturday at the Country Club of Landfall. The No. 9 Gamecocks, who posted a 4-over 292 on day two, will head into Sunday’s final round in fourth place with a 36-hole total of 577 (+1).

Olarra turned in her second-consecutive round of 70 following another solid showing. The San Sebastian, Spain, native opened her day with nine-straight pars to make the turn at even 36 before adding birdies on Nos. 10 and 14. She continued to keep the scorecard clean down the stretch and notched a par on each of her final four holes. Olarra sits in a tie for fifth at 4-under through two rounds of action.

Gamecock sophomore Anita Uwadia also broke par Saturday, carding a 1-under 71. She shot a front-nine 35 (-1) and collected birdies on Nos. 11 and 13 to get to 3-under on her round. Uwadia, who sits in a tie for 28th with a two-round total of 147 (+3), closed her day with three pars and two bogeys over her final five holes.

Ana Pelaez fired a 1-over 73 for the second-straight day to end round two in a tie for 23rd at 2-over 146. The Malaga, Spain, native boasted birdies on the par-4 third and par-4 ninth before registering pars on each of her first eight holes following the turn.

Carolina sophomore Lois Kaye Go (T47, +6) shot a second-round 78 (+6), while junior Marion Veysseyre (T73, +10) recorded an 84 (+12) Saturday. Go tallied three birdies on her round, and Veysseyre finished with a birdie on No. 18.

No. 4 Duke (562, -14) remained atop the leaderboard after shooting a second-round 285 (-3), while No. 2 Alabama (563, -13) and No. 16 Michigan State (574, -2) round out the top-three. Ana Belac of the Blue Devils and Virginia’s Beth Lillie hold the individual lead with a two-round mark of 135 (-9).

Ainhoa Olarra produced another steady showing in round two of the Landfall Tradition after totaling 16 pars and two birdies. The Carolina senior has recorded just one bogey through two days of action.
