No. 9 Women’s Golf at Evans Derby Experience

AUBURN, Ala. — Women’s golf senior standout Ainhoa Olarra earned a top-three finish at the Evans Derby Experience after carding a final-round 71 (-1) Tuesday at Auburn University Club. Olarra finished with a three-round mark of 209 (-7) to tie for third at the 54-hole event.

The No. 9 Gamecocks posted a 290 (+2) for the second-consecutive day en route to sixth-place honors. Carolina, one of four top-10 teams in the field, finished at 2-over 866.

Olarra, who began her day on No. 7, totaled four birdies in her under-par performance. She notched her first birdie of the round on the par-4 ninth before adding three more on her back nine in a stretch highlighted by back-to-back birdies on Nos. 4 and 5.

Gamecock sophomore Lois Kaye Go also garnered a top-20 finish, placing in a tie for 17th with a three-round total of 214 (-2). Go fired a 2-under 70 Tuesday behind four birdies and 12 pars. She registered three birdies over her opening nine holes before closing her day in style with another birdie on her final hole, the par-5 seventh.

Marion Veysseyre (T26, +1) finished just outside the top 25 following a 1-over 73 in round three. She continued to rack up pars on the final day, logging 13 to go with birdies on Nos. 3 and 8.

Fellow sophomores Ana Pelaez and Anita Uwadia both tied for 50th after totaling a 229 (+13) for the tournament. Uwadia notched a pair of birdies in the final round and shot a 4-over 76, while Pelaez turned in a 6-over 78.

Carolina junior Gaby Amos, who competed as an individual this week, shot a 5-over 77 to finish in a tie for 59th with a 54-hole score of 231 (+15). Amos shot par or better on 14 of her 18 holes Monday.

No. 3 Arkansas shot the low round of the day (277, -11) and finished atop the leaderboard with a three-day total of 836 (-28). Fifth-ranked Duke (845, -19) placed second, while second-ranked Alabama (850, -14) rounded out the top three. Maria Fassi took home the individual crown, finishing at 14-under 202.

Ainhoa Olarra closed a solid showing at the Evans Derby Experience on a high note, registering birdies on two of her final three holes. She finished the week as one of two Gamecocks with double-digit birdies.

  • Carolina totaled a tournament-best three eagles at the Evans Derby Experience. Ainhoa Olarra and Anita Uwadia carded one in the opening round, and Ana Pelaez notched one on day two.
  • Two or more Gamecocks (Ainhoa Olarra, -7; Lois Kaye Go, -2) finished under par at a tournament for the fourth time this season.
  • Olarra has placed inside the top five in each of her last four tournaments dating back to the 2017 Tar Heel Invitational. She has finished inside the top 25 in five of her six events this season.
  • Olarra’s 2.83 par-3 scoring average ranked first among golfers at Auburn University Club this week.
