Verzyl Named to USA Diving Pan American Team

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina swimming and diving freshman Sophie Verzyl has been selected by USA Diving to compete in the UANA Junior Pan American Championships. Verzyl is one of only four women who were selected to the A-group and one of 30 athletes who will be competing for Team USA.

The competition will consist of 1-meter springboard, 3-meter springboard, and platform dives, as well as a platform synchronized event and a 3-meter springboard synchronized event. Verzyl will be competing in the 1-meter springboard event.

Verzyl has trained under South Carolina diving alum and South African Olympian, Julia Vincent. This will be Verzyl’s first time representing the US in international competition. She has been competing in regional, zone, and national competition since 2014 and has a career-best score of 409.85 on the 1-meter springboard.

The Championships will take place in Tucson, Arizona, October 5-10. Women’s A-group 1-meter competition will be on October 7. Live coverage will be available via USA Diving’s social media accounts.
