Foster Named to Sporting News Midseason All-America Team

University of South Carolina safety Jaylen Foster has been named to the Sporting News 2021 Midseason All-America team, it was announced today.
 
Foster, a 5-10, 195-pound senior from Duncan, S.C., leads the team with 58 tackles from his safety position, including a career-high 13 stops against Tennessee, and is tied for fourth in the SEC with 8.3 tackles per game. He has four tackles for loss including a pair of sacks and a quarterback hurry.
 
The former walk-on who began his career at Gardner-Webb, is in a six-way tie for the NCAA lead with four interceptions. The Gamecocks have not had an individual intercept more than four passes in a season since Ko Simpson logged six picks in 2004. In addition, Foster forced a pair of fumbles in the win over Troy, both of which came in the fourth quarter with the Trojans in Carolina territory, helping preserve the win.
 
Foster and the Gamecocks (4-3, 1-3 SEC) will travel to College Station, Texas this week for a date with No. 17/17 Texas A&M (5-2, 2-2). Game time is set for 7:30 pm ET (6:30 local) and the game will be televised by SEC Network on Saturday, Oct. 23.
