Schultz, Kraus Represent Gamecocks at NCAAs

Atlanta, Ga. – South Carolina graduate diver Brooke Schultz and senior swimmer Mari Kraus are set to compete in the NCAA Championships in Atlanta this week. Schultz will compete in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives, while Kraus will swim the 200 free and 200 back.

Kraus enters the competition as the 19th overall seed in the 200 back. She achieved her entry time of 1:53.11 on the final day of SECs. Her time was good for fourth place at the conference meet and earned her the bid at NCAAs. She was also invited to participate in the 200 free, achieving her entry time of 1:45.68 on the first day of SEC competition as the leadoff leg of the Gamecocks’ 800 freestyle relay. South Carolina’s relay team placed eighth overall in the event. This will be the senior’s first appearance at the NCAA Championships.

Schultz earned her two bids at the NCAA titles during the Zone B Diving Championships in Atlanta last week. She placed third in the 1-meter event to earn her first qualification and won the 3-meter event to have a shot at a second title. Schultz’s winning 12 dive score in the 3-meter of 752.70 set new school and pool records. In sweeping the springboard events at the SEC Championships in February, Schultz earned the title of SEC Diver of the Meet.

This will be Schultz’s fourth trip to the NCAA Championships after claiming a medal in each of her previous three trips. She won the 3-meter title in 2018, earned silver in the 3-meter in 2019, and earned bronze in the 1-meter in 2021.

The NCAA Championships will begin Wed., March 16, and run through Sat., March 19. The Gamecocks will appear in the 1-meter diving competition Thursday, followed by the 3-meter and 200 free on Friday, and will conclude competition with the 200 back on Saturday. Preliminary rounds will begin each day at 10 a.m. with finals at 6 p.m.

All sessions will be digitally broadcast on ESPN3. A two-hour show will air on ESPNU at 7 p.m. on Wed., March 30, recapping the meet.
