Gamecocks Wrap Cavalier Invite
Charlottesville, Va. – South Carolina swimming wrapped up action at the Cavalier Invite on Sunday. The Gamecocks had numerous strong performances with many athletes posting season and career-best times.
One swimmer highlighting the women’s program was freshman Carolina Chasser who set new career-best times in every event that she competed. Chasser set new personal best times in the 200 IM (2:04.71p), the 400 IM (4:22.88p), the 100 back (56.24p), and the 200 back (1:58.65). Her best finish of the weekend came in the 400 IM where she finished fourth overall.
Another freshman standout was Emily Eaton who set new career-best times in both the 50 free (23.25) and the 100 free (50.73). She placed third and second in those events respectively.
Freshmen continued to make marks throughout the weekend with Emily Eaton placing third in the 100 free with a new career-best time of 50.96. She also set new career-bests in the 50 free (23.44p) and the 100 back (55.46p).
South Carolina’s lone event win of the weekend came at the hands of Alicia Davie who touched the wall first in the 1650 free. The senior wrapped her collegiate career up with a 16:55.11 for the win.
For the men’s team, sophomore Kyle Korvick swam his best 500 free of the year with a 4:29.35 that landed him in fifth place. He also set a new personal best times in the 50 and 100 free races with a 20.63 in the prior and a 44.82 in the latter.
South Carolina swimming & diving will now look towards the post-season, heading to Auburn, Ala. for the 2024 SEC Championships. The Championships will run Feb 19-24 at the Martin Aquatics Center.
