Bayer, Spencer Make Finals on 3-Meter at Zone Championships

Athens, Ga. – South Carolina’s divers completed the third day of action at the NCAA Zone B Championships with another pair of finalists. In the men’s 3-meter event, both Charley Bayer and Max Spencer earned second opportunities but came up just shy of the NCAA cut.

In the prelims of the event, Spencer finished in 13th with a 351.15 while Bayer booked his spot in the finals with a 17th place finish and a score of 336.85.

In the finals of the event, Bayer jumped up to 12th place overall with a 12-dive score of 699.15 while Spencer finished in 16th with a 680.20. Both athletes were shy of the NCAA cut with only the top seven finishers earning a ticket to the national meet.

Bayer’s 12th-place finish was a new career-high placement in the 3-meter event for the sophomore who placed 22nd in the event at the 2023 Zones.

The Zone Diving Championships will conclude on Wednesday with the Spencer competing in the men’s platform event. The freshman will need a top-10 finish in the event to secure a spot at the NCAA Championships.
