Program Overview

The Carolina Dance Team is an integral part of the University of South Carolina Spirit Program under the Department of Athletics. The team performs at all South Carolina home football games, men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as a multitude of other campus and community events.

The Carolina Dance Team also competes nationally at the National Dance Alliance’s Collegiate Championship each spring in Daytona Beach, Florida. The team has placed in the top five every year since 2010, most recently winning three consecutive national championships in Division 1A Team Performance in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

Members of the dance team must be full-time students in good academic standing at the University of South Carolina. Participation is a significant commitment from August to April, typically requiring 15-20 hours per week for training, games and appearances. The athletics department provides dancers access to many benefits including:

• $1000 annual scholarship + opportunity for reduced tuition rate for out-of-state students
• Priority scheduling and academic services
• Athletic training
• Under Armour gear
• Team travel (bowl games and basketball tournaments)
