COLUMBIA, S.C. – No. 11 South Carolina women’s golf continues play this spring at the 20th annual Bryan National Collegiate, set for March 31 through April 2 in Browns Summit, N.C. The 54-hole event will be contested at Bryan Park Golf Course and feature an 18-team field.

COACH Kalen Anderson ON THE EVENT

“It’s a good, challenging golf course, and usually we have pretty tough conditions there. It’s always a good test to get us ready for SECs. We’ve had a pretty good layoff here, so we’ve worked on some things and are excited to get back out there. We’ve had a good event there the last few years, and I think it fits our game very well. It’s a golf course that we’re definitely comfortable with.”

BREAKING DOWN THE FIELD

Seven top-25 teams will be in action at the Bryan Park Golf Course, including five schools listed inside the top-15. Alabama enters the event ranked No. 3 in the latest Golfstat poll, and No. 9 Georgia, No. 11 South Carolina, No. 12 Wake Forest and No. 15 Miami will also be in action. Virginia has won the tournament in three of the last four years, while the host Demon Deacons aim to notch their third victory at the Bryan National Collegiate. South Carolina is one of six schools entering the event with a tournament win on its resume for the 2016-17 season.

HISTORY AT THE BRYAN NATIONAL COLLEGIATE

This year marks Carolina’s 14th time competing at the Bryan National Collegiate. The Gamecocks have earned runner-up honors in each of their last two appearances at the event, grabbing second place in 2014 and 2016. South Carolina junior Ainhoa Olarra posted a top-20 finish at the tournament last spring, placing in a tie for 15th with a three-round score of 226 (+10). Senior Marianna Monaco, sophomore Isidora Nilsson and freshman Ana Pelaez will all be making their debut at the Bryan National Collegiate this week.

LAST TIME OUT

The Gamecocks placed fourth at the 2017 Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, earning their best finish at the 54-hole event. Carolina, who hosted the tournament for the sixth-straight year, saw three golfers boast top-15 showings at Long Cove Club. Junior Ainhoa Olarra and freshman Ana Pelaez tied for ninth with a three-round mark of 218 (+5), while sophomore Marion Veysseyre finished in a tie for 14th at 6-over 219. Fellow sophomore Isidora Nilsson, one of three Gamecocks who competed as an individual, posted a career-low 222 (+9) to finish in a tie for 27th. Carolina’s performance gave the Gamecocks their third top-five finish at the tournament in the last four years.
