No. 14 Women’s Golf at Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Senior golfer Ainhoa Olarra continued to pace South Carolina at the Tar Heel Invitational after carding a 5-under 67 Saturday at the UNC Finley Golf Course. The San Sebastian, Spain, native posted her second-straight under-par round for the No. 14 Gamecocks, who sit in third place (565, -11) following a 7-under 281 on day two of the 54-hole event.

Olarra (2nd, -7) totaled six birdies on her round, including four over her first nine holes. She opened her day with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 1 and 2 and made the turn at 3-under 33. Her solid play continued after the turn, and the senior notched a birdie on the par-4 11th to get to 4-under on her round. Olarra closed her day with a birdie on No. 18 to finish Saturday’s action two shots off the individual lead.

Gamecock sophomore Lois Kaye Go (T15, -3) also broke par in round two, posting 2-under 70. The Cebu City, Philippines, native registered back-to-back birdies on Nos. 5 and 6 before making the turn at 1-under 35. Go, who shot par or better on eight of her final nine holes, added a birdie on No. 13 and 17.

Carolina junior Marion Veysseyre and sophomore Anita Uwadia both shot an even 72 in Saturday’s second round. Veysseyre recorded a front-nine 36 (E) and saw an up-and-down performance after the turn in a stretch that featured three birdies and three bogeys. She will head into Sunday’s final round in a tie for 27th at 1-under 143 for the tournament.

Uwadia collected four birdies on her round, tallying two on each side. She notched birdies on Nos. 3 and 7 before recording back-to-back ones on Nos. 12 and 13 after the turn. The Okoko, Nigeria, native, who sits in a tie for 40th (146, +2) ended her day with three-straight pars.

Isidora Nilsson (T40, +2) also shot an even (72) after a strong showing on her back nine. She responded from a front-nine 40 (+4) and notched four birdies and five pars following the turn. The Gamecock junior logged birdies on three of her first four holes on her back nine before recording her final birdie of the round on the par-4 18th.

Carolina sophomore Ana Pelaez, who ended day two in a tie for 32nd (145, +1), fired a 1-over 73 Saturday. The Malaga, Spain, native made the turn at even (36) and concluded an up-and-down back nine with a birdie on No. 18.

No. 6 Duke (554, -17) remained atop the leaderboard following a second-round 271 (-17), and No. 2 Alabama (564, -12) climbed to second place after posting a 9-under 279. No. 1 Arkansas (567, -9), NC State (572, -4) and North Carolina (572, -4) round out the top-five, while Duke’s Leona Maguire holds the individual lead with a 36-hole mark of 135 (-9).
