CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — South Carolina senior standout Ainhoa Olarra carded a final-round 68 (-4) en route to runner-up honors at the Tar Heel Invitational Sunday afternoon at UNC Finley Golf Course. Olarra finished with the second-lowest 54-hole mark (205, -11) in program history for the No. 14 Gamecocks, who placed third after posting a 7-under 281 on day three.

Carolina’s total of 846 (-18) for the tournament marked the best three-round score in school history.

Olarra, who fell one stroke short of the individual title, finished under par for the third-straight day after notching four birdies in her round. She birdied No. 2 and 5 to grab a share of the lead at 9-under and posted a front-nine 34 (-2). The San Sebastian, Spain, native, who led Carolina with 13 birdies at the Tar Heel Invitational, added another one on the par-4 15th before capping off an impressive three-day showing with her final one of the event on No. 18.

Gamecock sophomore Lois Kaye Go and junior Marion Veysseyre also broke par Sunday. Go, who tied for 11th with a 54-hole total of 210 (-6), shot a final-round 3-under 69. She found her stroke midway through her front nine, and birdies on Nos. 3, 5 and 6 helped the Cebu City, Philippines, native make the turn at 2-under 34. Go added birdies on Nos. 10 and 14 before closing her round with pars on three of her final four holes.

Veysseyre tied for 23rd (214, -2) after firing a final-round 71 (-1). The Lachapelle-Auzac, France, native was steady throughout the day, and she finished her round with 17 pars to go with a birdie on No. 14. Veysseyre’s three-round total of 214 marked the lowest 54-hole score of her career.

Carolina sophomore Ana Pelaez posted a 73 (+1) Sunday to finish the tournament in a tie for 37th place with a 2-over 218. The Malaga, Spain, native, who collected four birdies on her day, made the turn at even 36 before turning in an up-and-down back nine that included three birdies and four bogeys.

Junior Isidora Nilsson (T43, +3) produced another solid round on the final day, carding a 1-over 73. She recorded three birdies throughout Sunday and tallied one on her final hole of the round, the par-5 17th. Nilsson’s 219 was the lowest total among the six golfers competing as individuals this week.

Anita Uwadia shot a 3-over 75 in the last round and finished the event tied for 49th (221, +5). The sophomore recorded three birdies Sunday, registering ones on Nos. 2, 6 and 17.

No. 6 Duke claimed a one-stroke victory over No. 2 Alabama (834, -30) after posting a final-round 279 (-9) to finish at 31-under 833. No. 1 Arkansas (851, -13) placed fourth, while North Carolina rounded out the top-five with a three-round score of 856 (-8). Duke’s Leona Maguire earned individual medalist honors after totaling a 204 (-12).

South Carolina closes its fall slate later this month at the 2017 Landfall Tradition. The 54-hole event takes place Oct. 27-29 at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The Gamecocks won the 2016 Landfall Tradition after firing a final-round 280 (-8).
